ADRA Policy on Photography and Videography

I 15 05 Photography and Videography

1. Ethics and Photography—ADRA representatives and staff must be very sensitive in portraying our community partners, will recognize and honour the dignity of individuals, and will refrain from exploiting their loss or violated dignity, especially in vulnerable situations. These principles must apply when confronted with individuals in the following situations: dead/killed persons, starving and emaciated individuals, women who are breast-feeding, children with flies in their eyes, naked persons, and people who are grieving.

2. Photography and Video Permission—ADRA staff shall obtain permission to photograph or film beneficiaries, especially children under 16 years of age. Permission can be either verbal or written as is required by any applicable laws or regulations.

3. The Positive Impact of Images—ADRA staff must strive to feature the positive results of its relief and development work.
